- Always carry a water bottle whenever you go outside and a handy tiffin for long trips. (Very simple, very important, hygienic and so economical)
- Make your children solve their queries by practice since a very young age or they will be dependent on expensive tuitions later on.
- Keep an extra packet of condoms handy in your closet to avoid beautiful accidents.
- Purchase goods on EMI's only when you can pay at least 30 to 40% down payment, avoid 100% finance schemes.
- Travel in off seasons to avoid 2 to 3x extra prices. (And unbearable rush)
- Use public transport when travelling alone, vehicle with family.
- Some products have 200% extra life at 20% extra cost, buy them to save money in long run, (I use Levi's jeans for same purpose)
- Don't order starters at restaurants, eat a heavy meal instead, upto 50% savings.
- Everybody must get a fix pocket money every month including children and bread earners so that they can plan and control their expenses.
- Grocery shopping once a month saves impromptu purchases, fuel, time and sometimes results in economy on bigger packages.
- Even if you earn too less and struggle to meet ends, never forget to keep a very petty amount as saving every month and invest it. (Start from INR 500 if possible, but start)
- If possible husband and wife both must earn to get a comfortable disposable income in hand.
- Focus on leisure activities like playing sports with kids in garden, playing indoor games, and avoid regular visits to mall and other expensive places.
- Keep handy jute or cloth bag in your vehicle to avoid paying 10 rupees for a 1 rupee bag every time.
- People consider medical insurance as a waste of money but some things are unavoidable in life however confident or cautious you are, take a family cover of ateast 1 lac INR.
- There are weekly markets almost in all cities, everyone from a labourer to an industrialist can buy good quality of fruits and vegetables at almost half the prices, don't shy away.
- Before buying second hand products at takeaway prices,never forget to think about high running costs, think and then decide.
